Baby Animals at the Fort Worth Zoo

Baby Animals at the Fort Worth Zoo

One of our favorite places to pass the day is the Fort Worth Zoo.  We are lucky to have one of the best facilities in the United States within a 20 minute drive of our house, and we buy a family membership every year as a joint Christmas present.

Our children love to find the babies.  And who can blame them?  Baby animals are cute!  On our last visit, we found two babies.  The baby giraffe’s name is Tatu. Fun fact – baby giraffes are six foot tall when born.  Oomph!

Asha is the name of the baby greater one-horned rhino.  The first of her kind born in Texas, this little girl wasn’t so little.  Weighing 130 pounds upon her arrival, she and her mother named Shanti are separated from her father who is housed in a different enclosure.    This is to mimic the way she would grow up in the wild, had she not been born in captivity at the Fort Worth Zoo.  Another fun fact – rhino gestation is between 15 and 16 months!
