One of the things that my kids love the most about Alaska is that every direction you turn is an outdoor adventure. Alaska is wild and untamed. It is beautiful, but rugged. It is the kind of place every child dreams about, even if they don’t know how to put it into words.
Sure, there are cities. Just not many, and it is easy to get outside of them. Instead of searching out the wild, it sort of searches you out and dares you to take a ride.

We took a day trip out of Anchorage and took a family rafting trip down the glacier silt colored Kenai River. It was a mix of wild and mild. The river was mild enough to be relaxing and enjoyable, but wild enough to see untouched nature at it’s best.
I was a little concerned about “river rafting” with my young kids until we met our guide. He was the ripe age of 14 – yet very capable. I guess the nature of Alaska just produces kids like that. It makes me long for that environment for my children to grow up in… until I remember the snow. But that’s months away from now. Right now, we’re just going to float down the river for a while.
There are several Cooper Landing rafting providers. We took Alaska Rivers Company and were happy with our experience. No promotional items or discounts were provided.
