Fancy Dress at the Delta Flight Museum, Atlanta

Fancy Dress at the Delta Flight Museum, Atlanta

The husband and I were in Atlanta earlier this month without the kids and attended a dinner held in the Delta Flight Museum. Located at Delta Headquarters near Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the museum was redone in recent years and is pretty snazzy as an event space.

I didn’t take near as many photos as I would have because I was primarily attending a low light event – and who wants someone on their phone taking photos while you are trying to talk to them?  But I did take a look inside the “Spirit of Delta” 767, take a look in the cockpit and check out some of the fashion of crews over the years exhibited inside. The other older planes displayed were in fantastic shape, and it was neat to take a look at the different stages of flight as well as Delta’s history.

Overall, the museum was very interesting! A few items of note :

  • They have a full motion 737-200 sim open to the public at about $400 for an hour. According to the museum website, this is the only full motion sim open to the public. It is what the pros use when they are training. If you have been harboring a secret dream of becoming an airline pilot, give it a whirl (but not really because it’s a full motion simulator)!
  • Delta employees and their dependants are free. It is open to the public with ticket pricing ranging from $6 – 12.
  • There are guided tours on Tuesday.

Cool! I love airline history, especially the old uniforms.
